Am I Trans enough?
There is no such thing as “not being trans enough”, or some people being “more trans” than others. If you identify as trans, then you are trans. It’s that simple!
Do I need to seek medical intervention to be trans?
No. Although many trans people do choose to pursue Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) or certain surgeries, not all trans people do, and that’s okay. Even if you don’t want to pursue these, or you haven’t yet, your identity is just as valid.
Someone I know did (X) during their transition, are they more trans than me?
Transition is a very personal experience. As a result, it is highly unlikely for two people to undergo transitions in exactly the same way. Everyone is unique, and peoples’ transitions can look very different. Some people may choose to pursue HRT, whilst others are okay with simply using a different pronoun, and that’s okay!
I think I might be trans, how can I experiment with my gender identity?
There are many ways! You can try using a new name and/or a new pronoun, you could try wearing different clothes, you can use different words to describe yourself or your identity… try different things out to see what works!
Outright’s Trans Group meets on the last Tuesday of every month from 4:30-6:00 PM in the Burlington youth space. Drop by if you are questioning your gender and need someone to talk to!
